Jaw-dropping beauty at every turn
The largest of Scotland’s regions, the Highlands and Islands has such a rich variety of activities, you may even struggle to fit them all in.
Things you must do in The Scottish Highlands
Take a cruise on Loch Ness
Probably the best way if you want to look for its famous monster. You can even start your tour from Inverness, capital of the Highlands.
See Eilean Donan Castle
An icon of Scotland, and a backdrop to some famous movies, Eilean Donan lies on the road to Skye.
See the Cuillins of Skye
Another photographic ‘must-have’. Essential mountain panoramas. Some say the view of the Cuillns from Elgol is the finest landscape setting in the UK. Boat trips across Loch Scavaig if you want a closer look.
Experience the atmosphere of Glencoe
An infamous clan massacre and an atmospheric mountainous glen – plus a good visitor centre which tells the whole story. Find out why the Macdonalds don’t like the Campbells!
Watch the sunset at Ardnamurchan Point
Ardnamurchan, with its lighthouse (which has an interesting visitor centre) is the most westerly point in the Scottish mainland. Superb island views out to the west and it’s fun to get there, with a real sense of somewhere special and off-the-beaten-track. One for adventurers.
