Where Scotland gets its style
It has been European City of Culture, UK City of Architecture and Design, the city tagged ‘Scotland with Style,’ and most recently, was voted as one of the UK’s top shopping destination – second only to London. Glasgow is really rising high. And it’s not just the incredibly friendly Glaswegian banter that is winning over visitors to the ‘Dear Green Place’, but some of the best culture and style that Scotland has to offer.
Glasgow Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC)
Old and new Glasgow fuse together at every turn. Stop by for a quick dram at the award-winning Tron Bar - part of the slickly progressive Tron Theatre - on your way back from bargaining with traders at Glasgow’s long-standing outdoors market, ‘The Barras.’ Discover the city-centre rooftop panorama from The Lighthouse, a conversion of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh building into what is now Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City - and pick up an innovative gift from design store Form on the way back down.

And let’s talk about shopping for a minute – Glaswegians are very style conscious and there are many exlusive little boutiques to discover, such as in the Merchant City. Or you can wander the cobbled lanes of the West End, dipping in and out of little Victorian cul de sacs, searching out unique antique finds.

Glasgow is also culturally rich. The newly refurbished Kelvingrove Gallery is a whole day’s worth of significant art, historic and natural exhibits. And with free admission, you can spend as little or as long there as you like. The Citizen’s Theatre has been a cultural jewel on the city’s southside for over 60 years. Glasgow has 19 world class museums – all of them free.
