Castles and whisky
Two things that have been entwined in Scottish history and tradition are castles and whisky, and the Grampian region is celebrated for both. Tour the beautiful Royal Deeside countryside, then turn north to take in the fairytale magic of Craigievar Castle and the stoic fortress of Huntly Castle. And once you have the thirteen castles of the Castle Trail well and truly under your belt, the Malt Whisky Trail - the only one in the world – will guide you through the traditions of distilling at Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Strathisla to name just a few. Sit back and enjoy a wee dram or two with the distillers themselves.
Aberdeen Golf Course
No other Scottish city is quite like Aberdeen – and not only because of its sparkly granite which lends downtown Aberdeen such a distinctive air. This northern city looks out across the North Sea with a definite salty and independent spirit. Aware of its maritime heritage – check it out at the Maritime Museum – yet vibrant and forward-looking, Aberdeen has a thriving cultural life at arts and music venues such as the Lemon Tree, and offers a good choice of shopping, pubs and restaurants.
